In 1995 we housed 16 individuals or families; just six years later, we served 168 households in housing and gave no-interest household start-up loans to 90 others. Housing which supports dignity, respect, choice, independence, integration into the community and supportive services as needed is the foundation that NHO services are based upon. Referrals for housing services usually come from the local public community mental health centers or chemical dependency treatment programs. We are now turning our attention to another needy population, individuals in recovery from alcoholism and addiction. In 2001, we began a new program designed to offer rental subsidy assistance to people who are recovered to the point that they can once again enter the independent housing market. To learn more, click on the button labeled, "SHAP." We have also launched a campaign to create three-quarter way houses that support sober living.
